36 offenders are caught on camera by ETLE in Samarinda

Since being used on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, the Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) cameras in Samarinda have captured more than 30 traffic infractions. Motorcyclists who do not wear helmets are the main offenders.

At the intersections of Lembuswana Mall and Muara, Jalan Slamet Riyadi, there are two ETLE camera positions. 36 infractions had been noted as of Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at 14:30 Central Indonesian Time.

"The majority of aggressive drivers avoid wearing helmets and frequently drive at night. The second is a violation of the traffic signs. Third, talk on your phone while you're driving. If the R4 (vehicle) in control doesn't use a seatbelt," explained Samarinda Police Traffic Unit Commander Creato Sonitehe Gulo, a police commissioner.

Although they have not yet applied fines for fines, the police have confirmed writing to the 36 infringers.

"We're still letting people know that the offender was captured in violation on the ETLE camera, complete with a picture. Socialization is still being inscribed on the letter. There is now no requirement to pay a fine," Creato Sonitehe Gulo remarked.

"Fines will be imposed later, once the socialization period has ended and there is no longer a socialization period. A fine, indeed. The notification letter will detail the procedure later on" Added Creato Sonitehe Gulo.

To elaborate, helmet infractions on motorcycles frequently happen at night. Regarding morning and nighttime infractions of the markings on the roads. In the meantime, car users break the law in the morning, afternoon, and nighttime.

Additionally, a mobile ETLE unit will be immediately run by the Traffic Unit. The Samarinda city government also committed to assisting in the acquisition of mobile ETLE units.

"The City Government is now processing 10 items of procurement assistance. Additional, two units of the Police Traffic Corps provide aid. Yes, 12 portable ETLE units will work" Creato Sonitehe Gulo remarked.

The Office of Kominfo, City of Samarinda, and the Department of Transportation both have CCTV cameras installed in the city of Samarinda. The camera does not instantly become a part of the ETLE camera network.

"It is a little challenging to integrate (CCTV cameras into the ETLE system) since there are specific requirements that cannot be met on their own. The other camera then serves as a supporting system for the evidence. Only the ETLE camera records the ticketing for prosecution" stressed Creato Sonitehe Gulo.

The two ETLE points therefore have a total of six cameras, three cameras each. It will be added in the future, according to Creato Sonitehe Gulo.

Officer monitored ETLE cameras for 24 hours at the Samarinda Police Traffic Unit Satpas Building on Jalan Slamet Riyadi while they were still being transported by Creato Sonitehe Gulo.
