Kalung Untuk Paul (Necklace for Paul)

Paul mengangkat alis, lalu tersenyum. “Untuk aku?”

Kim mengangguk.

“Indah.”

“Maaf kalau sederhana,” kata Kim cepat. “Aku cuma merasa kalung itu cocok sama kamu.”

Paul menatap Kim cukup lama, lalu berkata pelan, “Justru karena sederhana, kalung ini jadi bermakna.”

Kim menahan napas.

Kimberly Christiani, or Kim as most people called her, stood for quite a while in front of the display window of a small jewelry shop. Her eyes were fixed on a simple necklace with a tiny silver pendant. It wasn’t flashy or luxurious, but somehow it felt just right.

“It's beautiful,” Kim murmured softly.

At first, Kim thought she wanted to buy the necklace for herself. But every time she imagined the pendant resting around her neck, another image appeared instead—Paul Nicholas.

Paul was the kind of person people often described as perfect. Handsome, well-dressed, intelligent, and always knowing exactly how to behave. To many, Paul seemed almost flawless. But to Kim, there was one thing that truly made him different: he always appreciated the little things.

Even the simplest gestures.

Kim took a deep breath and finally said firmly to the shop assistant, “I’ll take this one.”

The necklace was carefully wrapped in a small box. On her way home, Kim’s heart beat nervously. Giving Paul a gift felt far more nerve-racking than she had expected.

They met that afternoon at a quiet café.

“I have something for you,” Kim said, her voice slightly nervous as she slid the small box toward Paul.

Paul raised an eyebrow and smiled. “For me?”

Kim nodded.

Paul opened the box slowly. When he saw the necklace with the tiny pendant inside, he fell silent. He lifted it carefully, as if the object were fragile and precious.

“This…” Paul smiled, though his eyes seemed softer than usual. “It’s beautiful.”

“Sorry if it’s simple,” Kim said quickly. “I just felt like the necklace suited you.”

Paul looked at Kim for a long moment before speaking softly.

“That’s exactly why it’s meaningful.”

Kim held her breath.

“A small pendant,” Paul continued, “but chosen with intention. You know, Kim… not everyone sees me as just an ordinary person. But this… this feels personal.”

Paul put the necklace on right then and there.

And when the tiny pendant touched his chest, Kim realized the necklace was more than just jewelry. It was a feeling that had finally found the courage to exist.

Paul smiled warmly. “Thank you. I’ll take good care of it.”

Kim returned the smile, her heart full.

Because sometimes love doesn’t need grand words.

Just a necklace, a sincere intention, and someone who understands its meaning.
