Taman Hati (Garden of the Heart)

Marshall ragu sejenak, lalu berjalan mendekat.

“Boleh saya duduk di sini?” tanyanya sopan.

Stella menutup bukunya dan tersenyum ringan.

“Tentu saja.”

Beberapa menit pertama terasa sunyi. Mereka hanya duduk berdampingan sambil melihat orang-orang berjalan di taman.

Akhirnya Stella yang berbicara lebih dulu.

“Kamu sering datang ke taman ini.”

Marshall sedikit terkejut. “Anda memperhatikan?”

Stella tersenyum kecil. “Taman ini tidak terlalu besar. Sulit untuk tidak memperhatikan.”

Marshall tertawa pelan.

“Kalau begitu… berarti Anda juga sering datang.”

“Benar,” jawab Stella.

Bukan sekadar teman bicara.

Every afternoon, Marshall Damianus would visit a small park in the middle of the city.

The park was not very big, but it always felt peaceful. There were wooden benches under tall trees, small flowers growing along the pathways, and a gentle breeze that made the place calm and comforting.

Marshall loved that park.

For him, it was a place to think, to relax, and sometimes to escape from the busyness of life.

But there was one thing he noticed every time he came there.

A woman who often sat on the same bench.

Her name was Stella Odelia.

Marshall didn’t know much about her. The only thing he knew was that she seemed older than him—much older, in fact. Yet there was something warm and graceful about her presence.

Stella usually came with a book or a cup of coffee. She would sit quietly, sometimes reading, sometimes simply watching the sky or the flowers around the park.

At first, Marshall only observed her from a distance.

Day after day, week after week, they both continued visiting the park at almost the same time. Yet they never really spoke to each other.

Until one afternoon, the bench Marshall usually sat on was already occupied.

The only empty space left was the bench where Stella was sitting.

Marshall hesitated for a moment before walking toward her.

“May I sit here?” he asked politely.

Stella closed her book and gave a gentle smile.

“Of course.”

The first few minutes were quiet. They simply sat side by side, watching people walk through the park.

Finally, Stella spoke first.

“You come here often.”

Marshall looked surprised. “You noticed?”

Stella smiled softly. “This park isn’t very big. It’s hard not to notice.”

Marshall chuckled.

“Well… that means you come here often too.”

“That’s true,” Stella replied. “I like peaceful places.”

From that simple conversation, they began talking more often whenever they met in the park.

They shared stories about their work, their lives, their dreams, and even small things like their favorite flowers or the songs they had been listening to.

Marshall realized that Stella had a thoughtful and wise way of seeing the world. Meanwhile, Stella saw something sincere and genuine in Marshall.

One evening, as the sun slowly set and golden light covered the park, Marshall said quietly,

“It’s strange… we only meet here in the park, but it feels like we’ve known each other for a long time.”

Stella looked up at the sky as its colors slowly changed.

“Sometimes,” she said gently, “simple places bring the right people together.”

Marshall smiled.

In that small park, between wooden benches and quiet flowers, two people with a difference in age discovered something they never expected.

Not just a conversation partner.

But a small space in their hearts that slowly began to grow.

And from that day on, the park was no longer just a place to sit.

It became the place where their hearts found each other.
